In the house, Paul held me in his arms and kissed
me. “Toy time,” he said and pushed himself away from me. He walked away in the
darkness. Until I met him, I’d been afraid of the dark. Had been since I was a
kid. Now I liked all kinds of light, especially night. I suppose because
nighttime was when I got to have him to myself, when our workday was over. We’d
fooled around with a couple of guys and it was always fun but I trusted him. I
never got a sense that he was about to run off with some other guy, no matter
how cute he was.
