Welcome to the blog tour for my new erotic romance,  The Ingredients of Bliss. This novel is part of Totally Bound's What's Her Secret imprint. The books in this series feature real, modern day women, each of who has  a secret which make her extraordinary.

This is my second title for this imprint. In my first, my short story Her Secret Ingredient, the so-called secret is obvious to the reader. In fact, it's even discussed in the blurb. It's hidden only from the other characters.

When Totally Bound asked me to write a novel-length sequel for that book, I was forced to concoct a new secret for my heroine, Mei Lee “Emily” Wong. I knew it had to be something more crucial than the simple use of the aphrodisiac in the previous tale. Furthermore, for the sake of suspense, I couldn't reveal the secret until the book's climax. What is Emily hiding from her lovers and from the world? I needed to make my readers wonder.

I have a confession to make. Actually, I didn't figure out Emily’s secret until the third major revision of the book.

My problems determining her secret were partly due to the fact that the original title was “Her Secret Weapon”. Hence I was thinking in terms of some sort of unusual skill or power Emily might possess which would assist her in rescuing Harry and Etienne from the clutches of the mobsters who had kidnapped them. Emily is  Chinese, from Hong Kong. I toyed with the notion that her Chinese heritage was her secret weapon, which would enable her to understand the thinking of the captors. My editor felt this was too vague, though, and ultimately I had to agree.

It's probably an overstatement to say that I had a flash of inspiration, but one day as I was struggling with edits, an idea popped into my mind – a secret nobody would suspect, but which would bear directly upon the plot. As is often the case with inspirations, this one felt exactly right – my editor even agreed! Next I had to go back and weave some clues into the book. That turned out to be fairly easy.

I breathed a sigh of relief. It worked – much better than I would have expected.

So what's Emily's secret?  Come on, you know I won't tell. Keep your eyes open as you read, though, and perhaps you can guess!
